Here is another revised mix of a previous project of mine. This is The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. It started as an 8bit, video game inspired remix until I recently got addicted to Dubstep and started to hear gigantic bass missiles firing along side of everything else music related that I’ve heard., So toward the end, you’ll here a little of that creep in. :)

Here is yet another revision to this Castle of Dubstep piece I’ve been working on and uploading repeatedly. I’ve been focusing on production quality lately. I’ve been getting the bass to really drive the experience without overwhelming everything else, creating intense distortion effects without causing ears to bleed, and ever more twiddling of filter cutoffs and overdrive levels right up to the point of crazy.

A renewed oldie of mine. I rushed it out a bit as it’s being considered for use in a documentary. (which would be awesome.) The artwork is actually very close to what I was originally picturing when I first created this piece. When you’re barefoot looking through a foggy window, snow falls from a warm twilight sky and water beads up on the ceiling while you look down on clouds of sand far beneath your toes.

That’s just one of the places I like to be when I listen to my own music. When my mind is in an abstract place, it’s like i’m in a dream where the only thing i can do is feel the music. I’m not thinking about my problems, just me and my music.

There are so many ways this piece can be better, but there is a point for me where it’s just too much hard work, and well, that’s just not as fun. That point is always moving further away from where it began though.

All i know about the author of this chiptune is that they go by ***tdk*** and that they probably live in Sussex, England.

8-bit music is basic and represents the smallest building blocks of music redefined in a way that captures the incredible art of computers.

A working machine that follows coded patterns and churns out information is easier to grasp when you hear the 4x4 beat and the familiar progressions that loop over and over. It’s this same procedure that’s causing this page to render, it’s the same system that automatically checks your disk for errors. The same digits of code, arranged differently, ask a server on the other side of the planet if your computer is up to date and tells that server you want to download software through thousands of miles of air, copper, and fiber onto your computer.

And that is a beautiful thing that works exceptionally well if you think about it.

Here is my cover of this classic piece written by Chopin. It features the Pianoteq True Modeling piano along with the Moog Modular and ArtsAcoustic reverb, all running in FL Studio . 3 of my favorite plug-ins ever.

The Pianoteq piano is by far the most compact of the realistic piano plug-ins and at the same time, it sounds even better than the rest. It’s versatility are unmatched in my experience.

This is my take on Rachmaninov. It’s been done with Arturia’s Moog Modular running under FL Studio. It was heavily inspired by Wendy Carlos—most notably the creator of “Switched on Bach” which is one of my all time favorite albums combining some of the best classical music with one of the first electronic synthesizers in the late 60’s—the Moog.

I was listening to Valentina Lisitsa performing this piece and I instantly fell in love with it. (she is an incredible pianist.) This piece embodies all that I value and enjoy in music—it is moving, it steals my attention and brings in a new angst that can only be satisfied by sitting. And listening. Right up to the final moment.

Rainbow Galaxy 009m

This has to be my favorite fractal to date. It has many of my favorite colors and the patterns are so very diverse. I took the time to render it at 1.8 gigapixels (75,000 x 25,000) and it took about 7 days.

Grey Flower - 008g

I haven’t worked on a fractal in quite a while. With this one I used a lot of photoshop effects and weird layer interactions. I like to push the boundaries and work in unconventional ways.

This organic color scheme is inspired by what I see when I see “phosphenes”. This is what you get when you rub your eyes or close them for a long time. It’s what you see when your eyes aren’t actually seeing any light. I find it fascinating.

-Wintry Mix-

So I made some more music-in-a-sitting.

This was me taking out some of my frustration and you might be able to tell from the awkward and angry beginning. What happened after this caught even me by surprise. I started randomly tossing around sounds which is normal, but then, I looked at the keyboard and with no specific direction, I decided to go ahead and hit record.

For something so random and of the moment, It worked. (I’m not a pianist and it usually doesn’t work at all) It brought me quite a bit of peace to know that this moment brought me optimism. It’s not always easy to do, but for me, I find that doing the mundane task of the moment is the best way to get my mind back where it belongs.

This track is incomplete which is something I didn’t realize until the day after I wrote it. I’ve decided to keep it as-is though, maybe so I can remember what it did for me. It’s a representation of me in one moment, with no re-writing or revision. It’s how I think over a short period of time. It’s one more piece to the puzzle I’m trying to figure out. It’s a piece of me.
